We use Vegan, Organic, carcinogen-free ink.

What does that mean and why on Earth is this important?

Currently, the FDA has not approved any tattoo pigments for injection into the skin. This applies to all tattoo pigments, including those used for ultraviolet (UV) and glow-in-the-dark tattoos. Many pigments used in tattoo inks are industrial-grade colors suitable for printers' ink or automobile paint.  Additionally, as there are no regulations on what goes into tattoo pigments or pigment carriers, some ink pingments contains carcinogens (cancer-causing agents) and may have mutagenic or reproductive toxic effects.  Certain pigments and pigment carriers are made from charred animal remains, animal fat, and other animal by-products from unknown sources and of unknown quality.

Because of this, at Thistle and Pearl we have made it a standard to provide only the highest quality ink and cruelty-free products.  Below is the Material Safety Data Sheet provided by our ink brand of choice, Eternal Ink.  Made in USA. Non-Toxic. Cruelty-free. Preservative and carcinogen free, using only four ingregients:

organic pigment, distilled water, witch hazel, and alcohol.
